Belgium produced an exhilarating first quarter of basketball as they brushed aside Slovakia 81-49 to clinch second place in Group A of the U16 European Championship for Women.
Out-scoring their opponents 32-8 in a frenetic ten-minute spell, the Belgians were a class apart and will now head into the next round full of confidence as they showed their ability to cause damage from both long range and short.
12-8 ahead after five minutes of the contest, Belgium accelerated clear with 22 consecutive points, running the fast break to immense effect as Slovakia struggled to cope.
Their lead was 48-18 at half-time and although the Slovaks stemmed the tide in the latter stages, Hind Ben Abdelkader hit a game-high 18 points as Belgium's speed in transition and ability to score off turnovers proved too hot to handle.
Zofia Hruscáková and Monika Migova each had 10 points for Slovakia, who finished third in the group.
