Slovaks Rally To Win As Poles Go Gold

Slovakia used a dominating fourth quarter to roll to a 58-41 victory over Poland in the second game of Group A at the U16 European Championship 2011 for Women in Cagliari.

And their opponents were punished for going nine minutes without scoring, as well as 0/13 from three-point range, as the Slovaks surged clear.

After going 8-0 in front in the first quarter, the eventual winner looked pre-destined with Nikola Dudasova guiding her side into a position of strength.

But Poland produced an amazing rally in the second period, as a 16-7 burst drew them level at 29-29 at half-time.

Angelika Stankiewicz - who had a team-high 10 points - extended the Poles' lead to 4 early in the third but Slovakia stepped up. With Zofia Hruscáková headed towards a game-best tally of 14 points and 12 rebounds, she hit back-to-back scores to send her team ahead for good with one minute left until the final break.

And it was one-way traffic in the fourth, Slovakia collecting ten straight points and shining inside as Poland's challenge faded away.
