Spain Make Easy Work Of Greece

Spain's seventh consecutive win at the U16 European Championship for Women was as convincing as their previous six as they secured a semi-final spot with a 78-25 rout of Greece.

And Evaristo Perez's impressive side will now play for a medal, at the very least, when they meet either Turkey or Sweden in Cagliari on Saturday.

For 21 seconds in the first quarter, the Greeks dared to lead. Spain's answer was to hit seven points in succession before imposing themselves with a 15-0 run that extended into the second period.

Down 36-15 at half-time, Greece had no answers as the tournament's best offense and defence proved an unstoppable combination. They were held to just four points in the final quarter as Spain - led by 12 points from Leticia Romero - rolled away.

Complacency, admitted Perez, may now be the biggest threat to his team

"The first target was to get into the classification round," he said.

"Then the challenge is to get to the medal round. Now we are into the semi-finals, we want to get to the final. But the danger is that we relax. You have to keep trying to raise your game."
