Miskolc: A Closer Look

The old town of Miskolc

Miskolc is situated in Northeastern Hungary and is the third largest city in Hungary.

It is also the county capital of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and the regional centre of Northern Hungary.

The area has been inhabited for over 70,000 years and was first mentioned by the name of Miskolc around 1210 AD.

After the World War I Miskolc became the sole regional center of northern Hungary.

The city's beautiful main streets have preserved the 19th-century style of the town.

The most popular tourist destinations in Miskolc are Tapolca and Lillafüred.

Tapolca has a beautiful park with a boating pond and the famous and unique Cave Bath.

Lillafüred district is situated in a valley surrounded by mountains and forests; its most famous sights are the Hotel Palace on the shore of the Lake Hámori, the Szinva waterfall (the highest waterfall of the country), the Anna Cave and the István Cave.

Basketball History Of The Area
The most important basketball club in Miskolc's history is DKSK (Diósgyőr Basketball Sport Club). It was funded in 1991 but can be originated back to 1945. The Club finished at 2nd and 3rd place several times and also appeared in the EuroCup.

The city also hosted the U18 European Championship Women Division B in 2011, and U16 European Championship Women in 2012.
