Albena: A Closer Look

Albena is one of the most beautiful sea resorts on the Bulgarian seaside.

Albena is situated 28 km north from the biggest city on the Bulgarian seaside - Varna.

The resort is remarkable for its 6km-long beach.

The town is a purpose-built resort, with the majority of the hotel's situated directly on the beach and backs onto Baltata National Reserve - a rare combination of dense wet forest and a seashore.

Some of the sights worth checking out include the dolphin show at Festa Dolphinarium Varna (http://www.dolphinarium.festa.bg/en/index.html); the medieval Christian Orthodox cave monastery, Aladzha Monastery, situated in the Baltata National Reserve; and the Evksinograd residency (http://euxinograde.bg/)

This list includes Plamen Alexiev, Vladimir Marinov, Todor Stoykov, Deyan and Kaloyan Ivanov (currently playing in Italy and Lithuania), Asen Velikov and Bozhidar Avramov.

One of the most talented and highly promising young female players, Borislava Hristova, comes also from Varna.

One of the most significant coaches of the team is Simeon Varchev, who coached the national team for the period 1989 - 1993. In 1992 he was named the best coach in Bulgaria and in 2000 was named as Coach of the Century of the city of Varna.
