Stach Leads Germany To Split With Turkey

Point guard Emma Stach had 38 points for Germany in their second warm-up game against Turkey

Germany gained a split of their two-game friendly series with Turkey on Friday as the two sides continued their preparations for the U16 European Championship Women.

Turkey had won the first encounter, 77-72, but the Germans rebounded with an 80-74 victory.

In a remarkable performance for Germany, Emma Stach had 38 points, 21 of them coming in the second half.

She was 10 of 19 from the floor and 18 of 19 at the free-throw line.

The youngster had poured in 23 points in the first encounter.

Germany looked as if they might blow Turkey out after opening up a 19-point lead on Friday late in the first half.

Patricia BroƟmann, who had 18 points in the game, scored on two trips down the floor to spark a 9-0 run that made it 41-22 for the Germans.

Turkey, who showed a good pressure defense in the two games, got back into the contest.

With 17 seconds remaining, Germany were clinging to a 75-74 lead after a three-point play from Serife Onar.

Onar had 23 points in the contest

Stach went to the other end and took her tally to 38 with another basket for a 77-74 lead and Germany held on.

The U16 European Championship tips off on 12 July in Miskolc, Hungary.

Germany are in Group D with Spain, Italy and the Netherlands while Turkey are in Group A with Hungary, Belgium and Sweden.
