| 15.08.2011 U16 WOMEN Spain's relentless march through the U16 European Championship for Women continued on Monday in Sardinia as they booked a berth in the quarter-finals with a 77-46 destruction of the Netherlands. And it was another convincing performance from Evaristo Perez's side who broke the Dutch early but illustrated their class with a 23-0 run that marked just why they are the presumed favourites to take the gold medal. The Netherlands, who now have a critical game against Hungary on Tuesday, did briefly lead in the opening minutes but Spain went on a 12-2 flurry which put them in front for good. Their mammoth surge brought a 34-23 half-time advantage and, as they have done in every game so far, the Spanish - led by 21 points from Maria Arrojo - refused to ease off, shooting an efficient 50% from the field. |
