Spain Survive To Reach Semi-Finals

As the second quarter started, Hungarians were now tightening things, with Bernadett Horvath setting up quality plays and the team finding their shooting touch from outside, making three three-pointers in a row to give Hungary their first lead, 23-25, with 3:20 minutes to play in the second period.

Contrary to the expectations before the game, Hungary were finding their open shots outside, while the Spanish were able to score much more in the paint.

Spain had troubles to organise their offense, but thanks to Laura Quevedo's effort, regained the lead at half time lead, 30-29.

Hungary showed their fighting spirit during the third quarter. With Dobos stepping up and Debora Dubei scoring, the hosts led 33-31 with 7:45 to play in the third period.

Spain now had problems with their frontcourt players, who started to lose stamina offensively.

In an even game, the lead switched several times.

Angela Salvadores scored from the charity line and Quevedo made a jump shot to put Spain ahead, 43-40, with one minute to go in the quarter.

A Capella three-pointer with 7:26 left in the game confirmed Spain's ambitions, but Hungary was still on track.

Two minutes later, it was Capella again, giving Spain a five-point lead with a steal and fastbreak.

Hungary were increasing their pressure on the Spanish players and, with Lo Sylla committing her fifth foul with 42 seconds to play.

A Romeu lay-up made it 57-52 for Spain, but a three-pointer by Debora Dubei kept Hungary in the game for the last six seconds.

After being fouled, Quevedo went to the line and missed both shots, but the remaining five seconds were not enough for Hungary to tie the game.

Laia Flores and Lo Sylla were the best Spanish scorers with 12 points respectively , while Dubei stood out on the Hungarian side with 22 points.
