Greece Finish Fifth In Group E

Greece expressed their fighting attitude beating the Sweden, 60-53, and escaping last spot in Qualifying Round Group E of the U16 European Championship Women.

Entering the game with a lot of energy, the Greek team set their usual game plan and were able to dominate the Swedes during the first quarter.

Being better in all aspects at the start of the game, the Hellenic team paid the price later, lacking strength to keep the pace and letting Sweden find open shots from outside.

The game became much more balanced and the Swedish were able to tie it in a last second transition before half time, 31-31.

In the second half, Greece was once again able to profit by the Swedish lack of aggressiveness and took the lead, which grew to 15 points.

Even when their opponents fought for a better result, the Hellenic side stabilized their game to seal the win.

Maria Goula's 16 points and Kleanthi Oikonomai's 14 rebounds were highlights on the Greek side, while Sigrid Sandstrom was the best Swedish scorer with 14 points.

Both teams will now play the in classification games for 9th to 12th place.
